Frequently Asked Questions

What Bromic Outdoor Heater Should I Use For My Outdoor Living Space?

So, you’ve done your research, read the reviews, and decided to upgrade your outdoor space with Bromic outdoor heaters. Great choice! While we think that all our heaters are top-notch and will add value, warmth, and comfort to your outdoor space, there are many variables you should consider before choosing which outdoor patio heater to buy.

What Do I Need to Consider When Choosing My Bromic Outdoor Heater?

Outdoor spaces come in all shapes and sizes creating many different variables to consider which outdoor heater is right for you. Some important items to consider include the size of the space that needs heating, how many walls surround the outdoor area, if any, what power sources are available in the space, if you would like the heaters mounted or to be free-standing, and the ambient temperature and wind conditions of the area.

With so many different types of heaters to choose from, it can be difficult to decide. At Bromic, we make that decision easier by offering heating solutions for any space with options including electric, gas, and portable outdoor heaters.

Should I Use a Bromic Gas, Electric, or Portable Outdoor Heater?

Which solution is right for you will depend on how you’ve answered some of the questions above. If the space you are looking to install heaters is a semi-enclosed or fully enclosed space in areas prone to wind, electric heaters are the right choice for you. If the space is semi-enclosed, but well-ventilated and temperatures become rigid in the fall and winter months, gas heaters are likely your solution. Looking to put heaters in a space with no walls or ceilings? Then our freestanding options are right for you. Let’s look at each of these options a little more in-depth.

What Makes Bromic Portable Outdoor Heaters Different?

What makes Bromic portable heaters different than traditional standard portable heaters is the directional infrared heat output and award-winning designs. Available in either electric or gas models, our award-winning Portable Bromic Outdoor Heaters are flexible, easy to maneuver, and have a small footprint making them an easy solution for any space. With a power output of 38,500 BTU a single Bromic Tungsten Portable Gas Heater can heat areas of up to 215ft2 while providing complete flexibility in terms of location, especially if electrical power outlets are not nearby. The Bromic Eclipse Portable Electric Heater, on the other hand, can be hooked up to a dedicated electric outlet and will provide you with an integrated dimmable LED lighting rail and four different heat levels (0%, 33%, 66%, 100%) controlled by the included Eclipse Dimmer control, providing both adjustable light and directional heat for every occasion. Although the heat output for the Eclipse Portable heater is slightly less than the Tungsten’s heat output heating spaces of up to 121ft2, the Eclipse provides more style, elegance, and multifunctionality through the included lighting.

Will An Electric Bromic Outdoor Heater Work With My Space?

Electric Bromic outdoor heaters are the ideal solution for semi-enclosed or fully enclosed spaces as they need less ventilation than gas heaters. Available in all Bromic’s collections, there’s a model suitable for every space. Our Platinum Electric heaters are the perfect solution if you are looking for a slim-line design that can fit seamlessly into your space. Available in three power options (2300W, 3400W, and 4500W), with a variety of different mounting kits including a recessed option, this premium heater was specifically designed for low-clearance semi-enclosed spaces and can be mounted with limited clearance requirements, heating areas up to 143ft2. There’s even an option for coastal environments where corrosive elements like salt spray usually will affect the longevity of the heater. Our Platinum Electric Marine Collection is constructed of 316 marine-grade stainless steel, which was specifically engineered for coastal and marine environments.

Looking for something with big power? Our Tungsten Electric outdoor heaters offer high-performance radiant heating with a durable, industrial design. Available in four power options (2000W, 3000W, 4000W, and 6000W), the Tungsten Electric heater will provide an even flow of warmth to outdoor spaces of up to 160ft2. The heater’s high-temperature coating and stainless-steel construction make it suitable for all environments. Like the Platinum Electric, mounting options for the Tungsten Electric include wall, ceiling, and recessed mounting kits.

Our newest collection of electric heaters, the Eclipse Pendant, brings both light and heat to design-focused spaces incorporating dimmable LED lighting with four different heat settings. With its sleek ceramic screen and matte black appearance, the Bromic Eclipse Smart-HeatTM series strikes the perfect balance between ambiance, style, and functionality. Available with six different mounting options, including both ceiling and wall mounts, the Eclipse Pendant can be tailored to fit the aesthetic of any space.

When Would I Use a Gas Bromic Outdoor Heater?

If you’re looking for market-leading heating power, then look no further than our gas heaters. Available in both the Platinum and Tungsten collections, these heaters are great for vast, well-ventilated areas, providing even heat distribution across large spaces, both heating areas of up to 215ft2. Choose which gas Bromic outdoor heater is right for you depending on whether you are looking for more of an industrial design as seen in the Tungsten, or if the sleek, timeless design of the Platinum is more suitable. Available in both propane and natural gas options, there is a solution for any space. What’s more, our wide selection of brackets and pole mounts will make sure they offer the optimum level of heat no matter how high the ceiling or walls.

Should I Use More Than One Bromic Outdoor Heater?

In some larger outdoor spaces, combinations of Bromic outdoor heater solutions are ideal. For example, maybe one area of your outdoor space is equipped with gas lines, while the other is only equipped with electric. In this instance, you could use either the Tungsten Collection or the Platinum Collection gas and electric options for a cohesive look. Or, maybe you have a covered lounging area where mounting an Eclipse Pendant heater is your solution, but there is also a separate dining area that could utilize the Eclipse Portable. The beauty of Bromic is that the full product line is aesthetically designed to work across the different types of heaters.

How Should I Mount My Outdoor Electric Patio Heater?

There are many ways to install your new outdoor electric patio heater. From suspending your heater via a pole mount, recessing it directly into the ceiling, or wall-mounting it on a bracket, the options are vast. Which option is right for your space will depend on whether the space is open or covered, the height of the ceiling or beams, and the availability of space for the heaters to be mounted from. Let’s take a closer look at each installation method to ensure you select the right solution for your space.

Should I Ceiling Mount My Heater?

One of the most common ways to mount your outdoor electric patio heater is by mounting it from the ceiling. Available for all Bromic’s Electric heater series, this mounting option is great for areas with covered spaces or higher ceilings. For ceilings with an angle, heaters must be mounted perpendicular to the floor, so adding a wedge to mount the heater to is required. With a minimum clearance of 8 feet from the floor to the heater surface, there are a variety of different ceiling mounting poles available to ensure the heater operates at its optimum performance level no matter the ceiling height, while meeting all the necessary safety standards and clearances.

What Should I Consider Before Flush-Mounting Heaters?

One of the most popular mounting options for outdoor electric patio heater’s is flush-mounting, also known as recessing heaters directly into a cavity space within the ceiling. Available for our Platinum Electric, Platinum Marine, and Tungsten Electric series, recessing creates a flush, modern and minimalist look that will instantly complement surrounding aesthetics without obstructing views or taking up any additional space. When considering recessing, it’s important to note the size of the cavity space required within the ceiling. For the Tungsten Electric series, the Tungsten Electric Recess Kit has a minimum ceiling cavity of 21.1”. Available for all Platinum Electric models, the Platinum Standard Recess Kit has a minimum 10” cavity clearance required, varying by model. Suitable for both retrofitting and new builds, the new Platinum Low Clearance Recess Kit has the smallest required cavity clearance at a minimum of 7.1” and can be used with either the 2300W or 3400W heater models. It’s also important to consider other objects located on the ceiling such as lights or ceiling fans to ensure the proper clearances are met.

Is Wall-Mounting Heaters The Right Option For Me?

For spaces that don’t have a ceiling or where the space might not be suited for a suspended installation such as a vaulted or angled ceiling, wall mounting the heater on a wall or structure via wall brackets is a great solution to efficiently project heat into your outdoor space. Available for all Bromic’s Electric heater options, our outdoor electric patio heaters can be fixed to a wall or structure with a requirement that the structure is able to support loads between 16 and 22 pounds. For wall installations, the Platinum Electric, Platinum Marine, or Tungsten Electric heaters must be placed at a 15–45-degree rotation angle varying by model, at least six feet above the floor and a minimum of 5 feet away from any structure above, depending on the model.

No matter which mounting option is most suitable for your space, it’s important to note that the installation of Bromic heaters must be carried out by a licensed and authorized technician in accordance with local electrical codes. Please refer to our clearance requirements and consult the installation manual for further details.

How to Select the Right Fuel Source for Your Space?

Which type of fuel source works best in your space will depend on the size of the area to be heated, existing power sources, and also personal preference in regard to appearance and control of the heater. As the only manufacturer that offers outdoor heating appliances in natural gas, propane, and electric fuel sources, depending on what is available, the fuel selection criteria can offer important advantages in your specific application.

Here are three areas to consider in your outdoor heating design plan:

  • Climate

The physical location and placement of your heaters can leverage significant efficiency based on the fuel type.

  • Clearances

How you integrate your heaters into your space is largely dictated by the clearances each fuel source requires. A minimum mounting height of 96″ is required in clearance from the floor to the bottom surface of the heating solution.

  • Cost

Fuel costs can vary by locale. Operational fuel costs can have a significant impact on high use applications like Restaurants and Hospitality.

Fuel Source – Electric

The key advantage to an outdoor electric radiant heater is flexibility. Great for smaller, more enclosed spaces where there’s not a lot of natural ventilation, Bromic electric heaters can heat spaces up to 160 square feet.

Advantages: Limitations:
  • Little to no Ventilation Required
    • Can be utilized in semi-enclosed spaces
  • Sleek, Minimal Appearance
  • Limited Carbon Emissions
  • Variety of Mounting Options Available
    • Wall Mounted

Fuel Source – Gas

Known for their heat output, gas heaters are the ideal solution for larger, well-ventilated outdoor areas. Depending on their power, outdoor gas patio heaters can heat spaces of up to 215 square feet. There are two options when it comes to outdoor gas patio heaters, Natural Gas and Propane.

Natural Gas (NG)

Natural Gas outdoor patio heaters require to be attached to a gas line, making them the fixed solution for outdoor spaces. This fuel type is supplied by your local utility company and tends to be the least expensive gas option when it comes to outdoor heating.

Propane (LPG)

Propane heaters run off pressurized tanks that can be moved around as required, making them the ideal portable heating solution. This fuel type may be purchased at several major retailers or service providers, making it readily available at all times.

Advantages: Limitations:
  • High Heat Output
  • Variety of Mounting Options Available
    • Wall Mounted
    • Ceiling Mounted
    • Portable
  • Control Options
    • On/Off
    • Business Management System
  • Fuel Readily Available (LPG)
  • Least Expensive Option (NG)
  • Less heaters required to heat large spaces
  • Ventilation Required
  • Recessed Mounting Option Not Available
  • Limited Control Options
    • No Dimmable Capabilities
  • More Prominent Heater Size
  • Gas Lines need to be Readily Available (NG)
  • Interchanging of Tanks Required (LPG)
  • Most Expensive Option (LPG)

Cost Breakdown

Running costs of each fuel type will vary per model and power output (wattage for electric and BTU for gas). In general, natural gas tends to be the cheapest fuel source, followed by electric and then propane. Below is an estimate on how much it will cost to heat a 400 square foot patio with Bromic’s range of patio heaters.

Estimated cost to run 400 square feet of coverage for outdoor patio:

Natural Gas
(2 x Bromic Series 500)
Propane
(2 x Bromic Portable LPG)
Electric
(4 x Bromic 3400W)
$1.06 per hour $2.02 per hour $1.84 per hour

The Full Range Heating Solution

In some instances such as larger outdoor spaces, combining fuel sources is ideal. For example, maybe one area of your outdoor space is equipped with gas lines, while the other is only equipped with electricity.

The beauty of Bromic is that the full product line includes both electric and gas options, and is aesthetically designed to work across the different types of heaters.

What is the difference between an infrared heater and a radiant heater?

While in your search for the best outdoor heater you may be wondering what the difference is between an infrared heater and a radiant heater? Are they the same? This is a common question that even some engineers are unsure of what that answer is.  The truth is Infrared heaters and radiant heaters are in fact the same. The term “radiant heater” specifies that the heater is generating heat using radiation while the term “infrared heater” indicates the primary type of radiation being used by the heater to transmit that heat. All infrared radiant heaters are radiant heaters, they provide warmth. Radiant heat, heats objects not the air.

What Advantage is there for using Infrared Radiant Heaters?

Since infrared heaters (or radiant heaters) are heating objects, not air, they are able to effectively heat outdoor spaces, unlike convection heaters which have little to no impact on an outdoor area.

Is there Better Heat Coverage with an Infrared Radiant Heater?

Infrared radiation is emitted from infrared heaters which transmit infrared radiant energy through the air and is absorbed by objects that it encounters, making its molecules vibrate; thereby, directly increasing the heat of the object.

In comparison convective heaters indirectly heat people in a space by first warming the air in that space. While this can be effective in a closed space (indoors), this air will generally escape into the environment before resulting in any appreciable impact on the people in outdoor spaces – the result being ineffective heating at a high cost.

How Energy Efficient are Infrared Radiant Heaters?

The ability to effectively heat the desired area by using infrared heaters also means more energy efficiency. This type of focused heating means less heat lost therefore more energy saving. More comfortable temperature levels can be achieved with a lower thermostat setting rather than with a forced-air system.

Are Infrared Radiant Heaters More Durable than Others?

Infrared Radiant Outdoor heaters are made to withstand a range of environmental conditions, and not all heaters are created equal. For electric outdoor heaters, any ingress protection (IP) rating of less than IPX4 should not be considered. Ingress protection ratings or IP ratings refer to the level of protection offered by an electrical enclosure, against solids and liquids. Beyond ingress, build quality and material selection need to be considered to ensure a long-lasting product.

All Bromic electric outdoor heaters have an IP rating equal to or in excess to IPX4, with material selection and surface protection selected to ensure the best possible useful life of the product. Bromic heaters are constructed predominately with stainless steel, and in combination with strict quality procedures, the build quality is second to none. Additionally Bromic offers a range of Marine grade heaters, utilizing a premium grade stainless steel, these offer an even higher level of corrosion resistance and are recommended in those harsh coastal and marine environments.

Can I Get a Sunburn from My Infrared Radiant Heater?

Like any warm surface, infrared radiant heaters emit radiation. The balance of this radiation (UV, visible and Infrared Radiation) is highly dependent on the temperature of the heater element (or surface temperature). Due to the low element temperatures of infrared radiant heaters, UV production if present is negligible and there is no risk of sunburn.

Do Infrared Radiant Heaters Make Noise?

Infrared radiant heaters generally contain no moving parts, such as fans, and thus operate silently. This means no distractions keeping you from peacefully enjoying your outdoor heater.

Are There Stylish Infrared Radiant Heaters?

Many outdoor heating companies have not yet upgraded their format and are soley focused on function. Bromic has adopted a form and function approach, offering a range of heaters which are designed to operate without compromise while also complementing the design of any outdoor space.

With the innovative ceramic glass screen, the Platinum Heaters offer the possibility to seamlessly integrate a heater into a ‘clean’ space minimizing impact and being ‘lost’ in the design of the space – especially when recessing (electric).

If the space is more industrial, then the Tungsten Heaters offer a product which complement this design and will not be ‘lost’ offering a bolder and eye-catching black metal grill.

The newest offering in the Bromic product range is the Eclipse (electric) Pendant and Portable. Taking its lineage from the Platinum heaters, the Eclipse also employs a ceramic glass screen presenting a groundbreaking round heater which is designed to be a feature in any space. The Eclipse range also includes LED lighting becoming a lighting solution to an outdoor space.

Are There Remote Controls for Bromic Patio Heaters?

There are multiple options to control your outdoor heater. From simple on/off switches to full wireless dimmable controllers, the choice is vast! With new technology such as Smart Home Automation Systems coming on to the market, it’s important to consider what controller options are available before you embark on your next outdoor living project. Let’s take a look at some of these solutions in more detail.

What Type Of Remote Controls Does Bromic Have For My Patio Heater?

1. Bromic’s Wireless ON/OFF Controllers:

One of the most basic options to control your patio heaters is a simple On/Off Controller. Compatible with both gas and electric heaters they can be installed directly onto the wall and operated via a simple wireless remote, which can also be wall mounted. Each controller can independently command up to two electric heaters or up to four gas heaters across two separate circuits. With a 6800 W rating, each controller is compatible with either two Tungsten 2000W, 3000W or Platinum 2300W/3400W heaters. As for the larger dual – 4000 and 6000 W – element heaters, you will need one controller per heater – but with two outputs from the controller this will allow for the heater to be operated at 50 or 100%. With the lower power requirements for gas heaters, a single controller is suitable for up to 4 heaters – with two independent outputs this allows individual control over each pair of heaters.

2. Bromic’s Wireless Dimmer Controllers:

Dimmer Controllers, suitable only for Bromic’s Electric heater range, provide a lot more control over your heater as they allow you to adjust the heat and light (when available). The extent to which the heater can be dimmed will depend on the Bromic patio heater and the type of dimmer controller. For example, our Bromic Platinum and Tungsten Electric collections can be adjusted in 1% increments. Alternatively, if choosing the Eclipse Dimmer Controller (used with the Eclipse Pendant – the Eclipse Portable comes included with the controller), the heater output can be adjusted in 33% increments along with total independent control over the included LED lighting as well.

The Dimmer Controller can handle up to 6800W of power. For example, one dimmer control unit will be enough to control two Bromic Platinum Electric 3400W heaters or one 4000W Tungsten Electric heater. When paired with a Bromic Wireless dimmer remote, you’ll be able to control multiple Bromic patio heaters with a single remote within a 100ft range. However, please bear in mind that if you wish to independently control each of your heaters, you will need to install a separate dimmer controller per heater. With dimmer controllers you also have the option to connect a multi-channel master remote. Each remote can be programmed to allow you to control an unlimited number of Bromic patio heaters in up to 6 zones, making it invaluable for larger, commercial venues.

3. Smart-Heat Connect:

For the ultimate in convenience, you also have the option to pair your heater controller with a smart home automation system. There are an increasing number of systems on the market, so it’s important to make sure your Bromic patio heater is compatible with the system you chose. Our Heater Controls can be paired to any home automation device that offers a RS232 communication connection. This includes some of the leading home automation systems on the market, such as Control 4, Crestron, Lutron, Nomad and many more. Many home automation systems will also offer a RS232 adapter as a retrofit option, so make sure you check with your system integrator beforehand. Once set up, you’ll be able to control your heaters, together with all your other devices, allow for complete control from a single device.

4. Wireless Master Remote:

The Wireless Master Remote allows you to control all of your Bromic electric heaters with complete ease. Compactly designed and easy to pair with our Dimmer Controllers, manage an unlimited number of heaters all from a single remote. This is a convenient solution for larger venues, offering user-programmable customization and control over an unlimited number of heaters in up to 6 groups within its 100ft or 30m range.

How Do I Use Controls with My Bromic Patio Heater?

Heater controls can be installed in any convenient location, noting that future access should be considered as well as heat dissipation as covered in the manual.

The range on the wireless remote is 100 ft or 30 meters, so as long as the control box is within this distance of the remote when operated – you will not have a problem. Additionally, the controls are suitable for outdoor installation, in which case orientation is critical, ensuring that cable glands are facing downs. The controls should never be covered, nor should they be placed in high traffic areas to prevent any potential damage.

As with all Bromic patio heater installations, it is critical that you employ a licensed technician to ensure all product requirements are met at installation and during operation. Download detailed installation guidelines for all our outdoor heating controllers.

  • Researched and ordered my fireplace from US FIreplace Store. Pricing was a fair value however, the customer service was EXCELLENT! I had an issue with the direct vent venting. I called US Fireplace and the correct items were sent out the next day AND Janessa stayed on top of my return authorization and sent me the permissions and documents I needed to return the incorrect item and no cost to me, including return shipping. Overall, I am a very satisfied customer and my fireplace looks and operates flawlessly. I am glad that I selected US FIreplace to source my direct vent fireplace. Thank you for the great service.

  • I had placed an order, through Lowe's Home Improvement, for an Electric Firebox: Revillusion RBF42. Ordered 1st part of January. Was told I would have it in 3 weeks. When checking to see is it came in, was told it was delayed to 3/15. Was then told is was delayed until 4/25. Waited until 4/27 to check on it. Was then told it was now delayed until August. This firebox was going in a new Sun Room addition. I could not get my final inspection until the Firebox was installed. I went on line and googled for this same product. US Fireplace Store web site was given to me. This was on a Saturday. I call and reached a very nice man. Explain what I was look for. He checked and told me they had 30 of them in stock. I almost fell out of my chair. I clarified with him the product I was wanting. I ask how soon could I get it. He told me it would ship today. Again, was amazed. It arrived on the following Monday. What a pleasure and a relief working with US Fireplace Store and their employees. Exceed my expectations.
