Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to clean my stove before painting with Stove Bright High Temperature Paint?Cleaning your substrate to be painted is essential for success. Follow the tips below to ensure a successful project or download our Stove Bright® High Temperature Paint user guide to have all the information on hand as you complete your project.
Will rust on the surface affect the adherence of high temperature paint?Yes, all rust should be removed from metal surfaces. Surface contaminants affect the adhesion of high temperature paint. If not removed, the coating will adhere to the rust instead of the surface. A wire brush is effective for removing rust or in extreme cases sandblasting. If the stove already has a coating that is peeling, blistering, or chalking, or has any contaminant such as grease, oil, or dirt, then the paint will not adhere to the metal and fail.
Is it necessary to sand or scruff the surface prior to painting? For surfaces already painted with Stove Bright® or a compatible high temperature paint use 180 grit sandpaper or a medium-coarse plastic paint pad to provide a profile for the new paint.
How should I remove oil or other harder to remove contaminants? For oil, grease, graphite, or other hard to remove contaminants, use lacquer thinner, toluene, or acetone. Do not use paint thinner or mineral spirits as these products leave residue. Please be aware of the HIGHLY FLAMMABLE nature of these products and the presence of harmful vapors. Eliminate all sources of sparks including household appliances and pilot lights and ensure you follow product instructions for personal protective equipment. Area should be well-ventilated whenever these products are used.
Which product removes dust or helps with a final wipe down?Stove Bright® Paint Prep in aerosol removes greasy fingerprints, light dirt and dust, and provides a final clean before applying the high temperature paint.
Are there any products I should avoid in surface preparation?Do NOT use products like Formula 409 or a “tack cloth” sold in many paint stores. These products leave a residue that inhibits the adhesion qualities of Stove Bright® High Temperature Paint.
Do I need to prime prior to applying Stove Bright High Temperature Paint? In normal indoor conditions, Stove Bright® is self-priming. A heat resistant primer may be necessary for extremely high humidity or outdoor use. In these cases, please choose a high heat primer designed to meet high temperature demands, as a regular metal primer will flake and peel when heated and give off noxious fumes.
How do I prepare masonry, brick, or composite for painting with high temperature paint?Clean the surface with a wire brush that will free any deposits that have settled in the crevices and pores in the brick or masonry. Vacuum the brick and the floor of the fireplace to prevent loose dust from settling on freshly painted surfaces during application. If water was used in cleaning, wait 3 days before application to allow any moisture to evaporate. Similarly, wait 30 days before painting the surface of any new masonry, cement, or brick to allow it time to cure. Lightly brush the surface of new masonry and vacuum any loose debris before using the high temperature paint.
Researched and ordered my fireplace from US FIreplace Store. Pricing was a fair value however, the customer service was EXCELLENT! I had an issue with the direct vent venting. I called US Fireplace and the correct items were sent out the next day AND Janessa stayed on top of my return authorization and sent me the permissions and documents I needed to return the incorrect item and no cost to me, including return shipping. Overall, I am a very satisfied customer and my fireplace looks and operates flawlessly. I am glad that I selected US FIreplace to source my direct vent fireplace. Thank you for the great service.
I had placed an order, through Lowe's Home Improvement, for an Electric Firebox: Revillusion RBF42. Ordered 1st part of January. Was told I would have it in 3 weeks. When checking to see is it came in, was told it was delayed to 3/15. Was then told is was delayed until 4/25. Waited until 4/27 to check on it. Was then told it was now delayed until August. This firebox was going in a new Sun Room addition. I could not get my final inspection until the Firebox was installed. I went on line and googled for this same product. US Fireplace Store web site was given to me. This was on a Saturday. I call and reached a very nice man. Explain what I was look for. He checked and told me they had 30 of them in stock. I almost fell out of my chair. I clarified with him the product I was wanting. I ask how soon could I get it. He told me it would ship today. Again, was amazed. It arrived on the following Monday. What a pleasure and a relief working with US Fireplace Store and their employees. Exceed my expectations.
